Snap\®/LOCK “STABILIZED” COUPLING Supports Overhung or Suspended Rotating Mass • The effects of overhung weight on shafts are well documented. Most couplings are only statically, not dynamically balanced. It makes no sense to carefully balance the pump and motor rotors to American Petroleum Institute (API) specifications, then connect the shafts in the field with an unbalanced coupling. • Even the most careful selection and weighing of individual components does not guarantee a good dynamic balance. • The Snap\®/LOCK coupling can be very easily dynamically balanced, automatically & inexpensively, as part of the production procedure. This gives the salesman a unique sales advantage. • However, the coupling still represents overhung weight which can bend the shafts and pre-load bearings. • Such problems can be easily mitigated by supporting the coupling inside a pillow block bearing. |
