DUAL Snap\®/LOCK Coupling The “Double-Snap” arrangement acts like a geared coupling, but without the attendant problems of backlash, tooth wear, lubrication problems and coupling “lock up”. Installation is also much simpler and faster, especially since there are no concerns with clearance fits between teeth. The spool-piece can be as long as needed and is easily fastened to the outside of the two individual “single snaps” . As illustrated, the complete “double snap” arrangement “rocks” and pivots to compensate for parallel offsets. The lobed shafts pivot separately around the ball pairs of the Snap\®/LOCK assembly to compensate for angular offsets. Axial motion is allowed by the Snap\®/LOCK lobed shaft sliding over the ball pairs. The amount of axial motion is determined by the length of the lobed shaft. This rolling & pivoting action of the Snap\®/LOCK handles changes in alignment without any structural deformation. Therefore the shaft and bearings are relieved of the stresses imposed by conventional flexible couplings. Conventional flexible couplings rely on structural deformation, thereby stressing shafts and bearings. |
